cat poo everywhere!

Question
Hi,
My 9 month old kitten keeps pooing on the beds, in the kitchen, and everywhere else except for the litter tray. He used to be trained, and has only started this behaviour in the last 2 months. The cat's mother (who also lives with us) has recently had another litter of kittens which seems to have precipitated this behaviour. Is my cat jealous of the kittens? Is he feeling unloved? He keeps doing it everywhere- mainly on the beds and in the kitchen. Eeeew! What can I do to stop this? I am at my wits end and am seriously contemplating giving the cat away. We show him lots of love, but we get poo on our beds in return- and urine everywhere else. I keep the litter very clean- change it daily. Please help!!!

Answer
Jodie,

Is your kitten neutered?  If not, he is experiencing the raging hormones of puberty which often can result in forgetting good bathroom training!!!!!

The litter of new kittens would also aggravate the situation.

I would get him neutered immediately and, after a couple of weeks, as the hormones dissipate, I think you should see some imporovement.

On the other hand, here is a link to an excellent series of articles on feline litter box problems that may have some other suggestions:

Please let me know how things go.
