Pretty Girl
Hi there.  I've attached a couple of pictures.  This is the young stray cat and her kitten that have been living in the garden behind my work for the last few weeks.  I  just fallen in love with her and she seems to have really bonded with me.  I have a vet appointment in two days and then they're both coming home with me.

For the past few weeks that I've been feeding and visiting with her I've become completely fascinated by her appearance and funny personality, I'm beginning to wonder if she resembles any sort of interesting breed out there that you may recognize.  She seems so unusual to me.   She looks tabby but is very spotted on her back and sides.  Her ears look too big for her head.  She's incredibly vocal and makes a variety of noises to me.  She's timid and very smart and has definitely claimed me as her person.  She's very standoffish with other people but relaxes a bit and is friendly with them if they visit her with me.  She's all over me when I visit to play with and feed them, all head-butts and rubbing against me with sweet little brrrr noises and seems to 'talk' with a series of long and short expressive mews, mas and mows.  She'll let me pick her up but doesn't like it.  Won't sit on my lap but sits right beside me, leaning in and loves to be touched.  Her kitten is of course a cutie.  A little fuzzball with interesting markings of his own.  Larger blotchy spots.

A little internet searching introduced me to the egyptian mau, and some of the pictures seemed quite similar to this girl and some of the personality characteristics were her to a tee.  What do you think?

Domestic short-hair or Mau, I'm so looking forward to introducing her into our family and just want to get to know her as best I can.

Answer
Carmen,

Yes, your girl is clearly a spotted tabby whose spots tend to be more randomly distributed. It is possible she has Egyptian Mau behind her, but her body type might also suggest another more randomly spotted breed known as the Ocicat. At any rate her coloration suggests chocolate/bronze spotting with quite a bit of rufousing (provides red/orange highlights to the coat).

So she is a spotted tabby domestic shorthair where the spots suggest a more classic tabby pattern. She looks a bit more robust than the Egyptian Mau body type, which is why I suggested looking at Ocicat pictures.

She is a charmer and very pretty. I hope you enjoy her for many more years.

Best regards... Norm.
