Question
QUESTION: Hi Pati,

Its me again Xris. I seek your advise and brought both feral moms for desex and both of them are doing very well.
But now i m facing another problem with the kittens. They are in week 7 now growing strong and active but they have really sharp nails. I m wondering how old a kitten need to be for their first nail cut? I have another older cat named Gucci which i adopted she s a beautiful bombay (sadly the previous owner wasn't that caring and wanted to abandon her)i will have her nail trim every 3 weeks too she loves it she purring non stop when i bath her and trim her nail. when will i be able to do that to my kittens?

Thanks You are my cat's guardian angel!

ANSWER: Hi Xris,

I'm so glad you got the moms spayed, that's one less thing for you and them to worry about.  Seven weeks is plenty old for you to start clipping nails, just clip the points like you would on an adult.  For some reason kittens nails seem to be sharper than adults, like little needles!  Same with their teeth!  Because the kittens come from a feral background they might not be as receptive as Gucci so try to make it fun and if they're really objecting stop and try again later.  You don't want to traumatize them and have them never want to have it done.
Bombays are beautiful cats, but then I have a soft spot for black cats.  I have several black cats who have the copper eyes of the Bombay and I just think they're gorgeous.
Thank you for the compliment, but I think YOU are these guys guardian angel!
By the way, the kittens can be spayed and neutered at a fairly early age, too.  We spay and neuter around nine weeks old, as long as they weigh at least two pounds.

QUESTION: Hi Pati,
I have attached another close up pic of one of the kitten i named Isidore. I find it strange when they are born they have very blue eyes but somehow recently their eyes started to changed to pale yellow.Their mothers are both yellowish gold eye colour. are they going through the changes?

Answer
Hi Xris,

A black kitty!  You know I love the black kitties!  All kittens are born with blue eyes, just like human babies.  Only the Siamese breed retain their blue eyes (although occasionally you'll get a pure white cat with blue eyes, but that's actually a birth defect and they are usually deaf, too.  I've got one like that now-heck, I think I have one of just about everything right now!).
I was talking to the President of our rescue and she was commenting on how you spaying just those two moms will probably prevent hundreds, literally, of unwanted cats in the world.  When you consider not only how many those two moms could have had themselves, and what all their offspring could have had--its amazing.  Now, they'll be safe and cared for and not contribute to the overpopulation problem.  So give yourself a big pat on the back, you've done a really good thing!
