Cat gets angry at tail

Question

Rascal Rasputin
My indoor adult cat seems to "get angry" at his tail. We notice that it happens more often when he is stressed or not getting his way. He swags his tail, hisses at it, tries to run and hide from it, and even attacks it. Why does Rascal do this?

Answer
Joy,

Cats swishing their tails is a sign of agitation.  Some examples are intently watching birds or squirrels outside, being annoyed at something or someone.  So, I am surmising that Rascal has taken this behavior to the extreme.  On the other hand you may want to inspect the tail to see if there is a medical problem. If so, you will want to see the veterinarian.

Best regards... Norm.
