bathing to the point of scabing

Hi My name is Lindsay and I have 16 year old male neutered cat. He has just this past week starting washing his stomach to much he now has scabs in two different places. Can you give my any advise on how to stop this and how to treat the sores so he stops licking and making it worse.

You should have your cat's thyroid function checked, just to be sure that it is okay...Other than that have you changed his food? Has he been treated for fleas with a new product? Does he go outside? These are all things that your vet will want to know....For the meantime my only advice is a trip to the vet. Keep me posted and let me know what happens...Good luck!
