Question
My cat was missing during the day which is not unusual, she likes to roam. Tonight she came back walking fine( no limping)but whining when I touched her hip area. She is eating and sleeping normally but I wanted to know if I could do anything to ease her pain. I know not to give them Tylenol or anything but is there any thing else I can do to make her more comfortable? Thank you for your time. Kathryn

Answer
Hi Kathryn,

Cats do not tolerate normal pain relievers at all. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin are all not good for cats. She may have gotten bruised there. There really isn't much you can do at home. Vets will usually give cats cortisone to help them if they need it. Just make sure she is comfortable. Check to see if the skin is broken. Keep an eye out for an abscess.
You really should keep her inside. There is no real reason to let a cat out to roam around. And you see what can happen. I have cats that were once outside cats. Now they stay in since I have them. They do not miss it and are safer that way. I don't have to worry about them. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen
