QUESTION: no one is avaible for the category "pregnant cats" so im not really expecting an answer.. but my cat is pregnant, im not sure how exactly how far in she is into the pregnancy, but her tummy is very big, her kittens are always kicking, her nipples are hard and feel swollen.. only thing is, she hasn't found a place for her nest, she mostly walks around the house and lays everywhere and anywhere. she always sleeps, and has a big apatite. but today there was some wet looking stuff on her private area all around her fur. i was wondering if its the mucus plug?? and she was acting strange and following me around the house, she even tried going to the bathroom with me.

ANSWER: Amanda,

Beautiful kitty! It sounds like she is close. They follow you around because they are nervous. They know something is going on but they don't know what. Keep reassuring her everything is OK. My cats liked to have kittens on the bed. Make some different 'nests' for her so she can choose one, or maybe she will pick her own place. Let her have the option.

I am including some links to good articles about pregnancy and birth. They cover quite a bit of information that should be helpful to you. If you still have questions or concerns after reading the information then feel free to write back.

Some cats don't want you to leave them, and some prefer to be by themselves. It all depends on your cat's personality. If she is a first time mother, they periodically aren't quite sure what to do and they can do some bizarre things. Kittens in the same litter can be by different fathers if more than one tomcat bred the mother during her cycle so sometimes a kitten can be born up to 24 hours later. That is not anything to worry about. And mother cats tend to move the kittens at least once.

I hope this helps you.

QUESTION: hey, my cat gave birth this morning, around 6:00 and she finished at 9:00. She had six adorable kittens!! She had them beside the couch, where my mom had passed out. So i  decided to put them in a box, using a cloth (because they were on the carpet). But she didn't like it so i tried moving them to a different room, where it was quiet, and dim. And she still didn't like it. I let her move them where she wished, but now there under a rickety couch, and its dangerous, because if someone forgets they can kill her and her kittens... I'm really stuck, i don't want to move them too much, plus she doesn't like the beds i picked out for her , and i really feel uncomfortable about her being under the couch. What should i do?

Answer
Amanda,

Congratulations on your new 'kitty grandkids'!

You can try putting them back beside the couch where she originally wanted them....or you can get a new couch! (smile). I would think you are going to have to figure out how to block access under the couch, put stuff on it so no one sits on it, forgetting about her, or somehow put boards or blocks under it to make it safer. It sounds like she doesn't want a box to be in so just put a blanket or something that she can lay on and stretch out.
