Question
hi there
i would really appreciate it if you could help me with this. i have a pure breed de-sexed siamese female cat (age: 9 months). she has a very attention-demanding nature, but otherwise quite lovely. recently, she began waking me up every morning at 6am (just before my alarm goes off) so that i would feed her and let her go outside. she starts meowing every morning at 6am very loudly and does not stop until i make it downstairs (her meowing can go on for up to an hour). her tone of meowing is also very demanding! this is quite disruptive as i like to get an extra 10min of sleep before getting up but with her meowing its impossible. could you please suggest something?

Answer
Hello Lana.

Cats are like having a 4 legged child. You have to make some allowances. Try setting your alarm 10 minutes sooner so you both are on the same schedule.

A Siamese IS a very vocal cat. That should have been a consideration when you chose the cat because you can't change that. Try leaving a bowl of dry food available for her all the time. That way she won't have to bother you if she is doing it because she's hungry. Does she have a litterbox available? If she is meowing because she has to go potty she is not comfortable and she is trying to tell you that, plus it is not good for her kidneys to have to hold it.

Another option would be to get her a kitty companion. Having one cat makes that cat dependant on you for attention. Having 2 cats gives them someone to play with and cuddle with and your attention, while still needed and wanted, is not so imperative.

Other than that there is not much you can do except to accept her 'talking' as part of her personality and to adjust your schedule by 10 minutes.
