Question about my cats lungs...

Question
My vet did a high tech sono on my cats lungs and found that there was a small nodule in his left lung.   They said they cannot tell what this nodule is.  He doesn't seem to be worried about it.  If it were a cancer would there be specific characteristics that would show up on the scan? He also was diagnosed with upper air way disease. They sono'ed the cats entire body and it was completely clear.  Thank you in advance. Is there a chance that the nodule is benign?

Answer
Phyllis,

First of all, I am not a vet, so what I am giving is a lay opinion.  Unless the nodule grows, you probably should not be worried about it.  Your vet should have told you whether it may or may not be cancer.  Yes, there are other characteristics which might indicate cancer, but, not being a vet, I do not feel comfortable talking about them.  I do know that no one thing except for biopsy would be able to indicate cancer for sure in your cat.

I would pose these questions to your vet and, if you are not comfortable with what your vet tells you, you may want to seek a second opinion.

In summary, you may want to check on the nodule periodically, and, if it does not grow, I would not worry about it.  BTW, unless it is operable, if it is malignant, there is not much you can do.

Best regards... Norm.
