Question
i took my 6 month old kitty to get her booster shots, and her
first leukemia shot today..she was supposed to get fixed but her
blood count was off...she spent the entire day at the vet..when i
took her home...she showed the most agressive
behavior..hissing, scratching, growling, hiding..she's always
been a very happy freindly cuddly kitten. after a few hours she
would snap into a rubbing frenzy on the furniture, on my
leg...she sat in her litter box for over an hour and wouldnt come
out. she acts like she's in heat all night...Im worried something
is wrong..is this normal behavior for some kittens? i know shes
traumatized, but WOW...please let me know thanks a lot

Answer
Ryan,

Something must have happened at the vet's office!!!!!

Secondly, your vet should have told you to wait at least 3 weeks between vaccinations.  I would not have allowed the cat to have its booster (I asume the 3-in-1 booster) and a leukemia shot on top of that.  Does the cat go outside?  If not, why a leukemia shot?

When the vet said the blood work was "off", what does that mean?  At 6 months, the bloodwork should be just fine!!!!!

Finally, when you decide to have your cat fixed, you do not want it to get vaccinations at the same time.  Vaccinations DO challenge the bodies immune system.  Although, by themselves, vaccinations usually are not problematic, why complicate things?

I do not know how you feel about your present vet, but, I would have a serious, but calm, discussion about what happened to your kitty in the vet's office.  If the vet is not willing to discuss this and other issues in a non-condescending way, I would consider getting a new vet!

Whatever happened to your cat will be forgotten over time.  I would consider giving her extra treats (straiend meat babyfood is a wonderful treat) and spend some time lavishing lots of extra attention on her.  Make her feel that your home is a safe haven for her.  In time, she will be back to her old self.

Best regards... Norm.
