Question
My cat eats just fine but I have tried to get her to drink but sho won't. I have tried milk, water, cat milk, and even cream. she will not drink liquids. I have even tried leaving the faucet dripping but I never notice her going to that either. Her urine smells stron and I know she needs to drink. What can I do?

Answer
Ginger,

How old is this cat and when did this start?

Have you had her to the vet to see what is going on?  If she is not dehydrated, then she is getting plenty of liquid.  She could have a urinary tract infection which would make her urine smell stronger. Your vet could tell this.

Is she spayed?  It is possible that her behavior could change if she is in season.

Anyway, if she is dehydrated, and your vet does not feel the need to give her subcutaneous fluids, you can get a bottle of unflavored Pedialyte (look in the baby section of nay supermarket or hypermarket) and get some meat baby food (no added ingredients, only meat and meat broth), and see if she likes it.  If she does like the baby food, make a soup of the baby food and the unflavored Pedialyte and see if she will lap that up.

One way we used to get a cat to drink water in the old days was to put some salt on the food.  Do not give your cat milk.  Adult cats easily get diarrhea from cows milk.

Please let me know what you find out.
