Milk dried up?

15:10:40

Question
We believe that our mother cat's milk has dried up. How can we tell?

Answer
Niecie,

How old are the kittens?  Are they weaned?  How long has it been since she nursed any kittens?

If the kittens are weaned and she has stopped nursing, the milk usually dries up within 2-3 weeks.  Usually, the mammaries get hard (called "packing up") as the milk dries up, and the cat's body eventually reabsorbs all the dried milk.

If the kittens are too young to be weaned (under 3-4 weeks of age), and if the milk has already dried up, the kittens will be screaming because they are hungry.

I hope this helps.

Best regards... Norm.
