optimal breeding time after birthing/1st heat?

Question
When is the optimal time to breed your queen again after she has had her kittens? Does the waiting period shorten if none of the kitten survive?

Answer
Hi Kathy,

Usually the queen will go into heat after her milk production has stopped. Some cats will go into heat 4 weeks after the birth of kittens. She will be receptive to breeding right at the start of her heat cycle. If the kittens were dead I would look for a heat cycle to start about 2-3 weeks from the birth. I hope this helped you. And I'm sorry for the loss of the kittens.

Ciao, Karen
