excessive yowling

Question
I have 2 Indoor Siamese cats (mother and son) both have their tendencies.  Mother (age 6) loves to carry things in her mouth and treat them like babies, yowling as she goes.  This isn't that annoying, actually its pathetically cute.

The son, is 5, was fixed as a kitten, and ever since we moved into our house 2 years ago, he runs around the first floor and basement, howling as loud as he can, pacing back and forth. It's especially bad this Spring, and if he were female I'd say he was in heat, because he doesn't shut up, unless sleeping.  We have a screened in porch that they sit on as much as possible.  Alot of times, this only seems to make him worse.  He gets plenty of love and attention, always has fresh food and water, and clean litter box.  I've had siamese my whole life, and have never had this problem.  Any suggestions or behavior adjustments I can make?  I'm really getting frustrated.

Answer
Hi Matt,

It sounds like he is seeing something outside that is upsetting him alot. It may be another cat walking around. He may be yowling and trying to tell the other cat to back off, this is his territory. Try keeping him away from the porch area if you can and see what happens. Get a product called Feliway. Spray this around. It acts as a kitty tranquilizer. See if this calms him down. Good luck and let me know what happens.

Ciao, Karen
