Answer
Alr,

I am not a veterinarian, but it sounds to me as if your cat may have the wet (effusive) type of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).

This disease has similar symptoms as what you are describing.  A cat flu that just will not go away, fluid in the abdomen (usually, this fluid is yellow, very viscous, or pasty, ropey, very high in protein [especially gamma globulin]).  If this is what your kitty has, there is not treatment available.

If it is not FIP, I do not know what your kitty has, but whatever it may be, it sounds serious.  You can subscribe to an e-mail list called the fanciers health list by sending an e-mail to:

fanciershealth-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

This list is monitored by some very excellent cat vest and experienced cat breeders and they may be able to shed further light on your kitty's malady.

Please let me know what you find out.

Concerned regards... Norm.
