Cat diarrhea

Question
My healthy 2 year old cat has recently had a bout with diarrhea.  Our vet has refused to treat her unless we agreed to declaw her.  We refuse!  My gut feeling is that she is suffering with a hairball.  Could this cause the diareah?
I've been giving her 1/4 Immodium A/D when it gets bad.  I do this for me and for her....  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I should note that all her shots are up to date.  Thank you so much in advance for your time and trouble.

Answer
What!! Change your vet. Everyone today knows that declawing is a serious and harmful surgery that should be avoided and any good vet knows that. Secondly, any and every vet has teh means to deal with an onery cat. And you only need something to stop the problem which may not even require an exam. I must say that no, hairballs will not generally cause diarhea. And giving people meds to pets is never a good idea so i don't recommend that. And diarhea if left untreated too long can be dangerous. So in sum my answer has to be that you get another vet and get proper treatment. I have never heard of a vet saying such a ridiculous thing and if I were you I would never go back there again. That was totally irresponsible of that vet. I am glad you were wise enough to walk away from that nonsense. Just please find another vet. That guy should be put out of business. Shame on him.
