Question
I forgot to mention a very important part in my cats behavior.  She has recently been standing very still before laying down and just starring off...she then slowly lies down but not completely on her stomach and then preceds to lie down slowly all the way.  What does this mean?  Oh, I'm afraid!

Thanks!

Answer
I don't have any personal experience with PKD in particular, which is why I didn't feel comfortable answering your last question.  But I do have experience with Chronic Renal Failure, and this sounds like she's experiencing some real pain in her kidney when she goes to lie down.  I've had kidney issues myself, and it is excruciating to have pressure on inflamed kidneys.

I have to say that it's not really as simple as, you'll just know when it's time to let her go.  In fact, I've never found a case this simple.  Most people have very conflicting feelings - they don't want to make them suffer, but they don't want to cut their lives short, either.  I think your kitty's quality of life is beginning to decline judging by her behavior and the fact that she's eating less.  It does still seem as though she's enjoying some things, like spending time with you.  Once you start seeing negative quality of life issues outweighing positive ones, then I think the right decision is to put her to sleep.  If she spends more time crying or laying uncomfortably than she does eating and cuddling with you, then I believe it's time to let her go.
