Cats having kittens

Question
I was wondering is there is an age limit for cats to have kittens. I have a 13 year old cat that is not fixed and she still goes into heat, we found her last night with another cat.

Answer
Crystal,

It would probably be kindest to arrange to have your cat's mothering days end by spaying her. 13 is a bit old to be having kittens. Keep in mind that a 13 year old cat is approximately 68 years old in human years. As far as I am aware a cat that still goes into heat can have kittens, but I am not a qualified vet so I can't give you a definite answer. I think that you should be aware though that there are more mixed breed kittens and cats than there are homes for. Unfortunately this results in tremendous euthanasia rates for these cats in animal shelters. Spaying your cat also has health benefits such as reduced incidences of breast cancer and reproductive infections or cancers. I hope that this answers your question.
