weird twitch

I have a 9 year old tabby and when something touches her back near her tail she
starts to bite at the air and gets a weird look in her eyes. She didn't always do
this so thats why I'm concerned. It started about a month ago. Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal. It is a nerve ending close to the surface. It is like someone tickling your armpits.

But anytime an older cat has a noticable change in behavior it is good to have them checked by a vet. She could be having an ageing problem relating to her nerves.
