my cat likes me more than my wife and she hates it

Question
I normally dont mind our cat Shadow and I rarely show much affection
towards him. I didnt even want him I the first place but my wife brought him
home one day and I couldn't tell her no. I'm not mean andhurtful to him but I
push him away from me, kick him off my lap and pet him pretty rough
sometimes and my wife shows as much affection she can and he still prefers
to sit on my lap or rub up against me. It makes her a little upset cuz he
doesn't ever go to her. Why is that?

Answer
Zach,

Is the cat a calico? Or did it have a feral parent? Those cats are known to bond with one person. Your wife shouldn't take offense.

Your wife should try ignoring the cat too. And don't have her look the cat in the eyes. That is a threatening gesture. It is a known fact that a cat in a roomful of people will go to the person who ignores it. Go figure!

It may have something to do with your 'smell'. You may wear a cologne or aftershave that has 'cat attractants' in it. Or your normal body odor may be attracting the cat to you. Or you may be bringing an interesting smell home with you. You just smell good to the cat! You can't blame a cat for that! (smile)

Sometimes there is no logical explanation for some cat's behavior and only the cat knows why it acts a certain way.
