Question
I am an owner of a 1 year old spayed Siamese cat. When we adopted her she was just a baby. She seemed very curious and quite happy. She has not been around many people other than myself and my husband. We are very concerned with her behavior where people are concerned. When we have company she growls and has even attacked one of our friends. She does this everytime people come to visit. She even sits in our window and growls at our neighbor when she is checking her mail. Her behavior is getting worse when company comes to our home. We even brought a new kitten home about 6 months ago to keep her company and to help her be more social. This has just changed her personality for the worse. She seems more annoyed by the other cat than anything. We do not know what to do to make her more relaxed when people are present other than to lock her in bedroom to prevent her from attacking them. Let me say this is not a playful reaction she is exhibiting. Do you have any ideas how to get her to stop doing this??? Please help.

Answer
Hi Valerie,

I have a cat like this. We raised him since he was 4 hours old. Now he will attack anyone who is not part of this household. I believe it is for two reasons. He does not like anything to disturb his household. And he does not like anyone who is not part of his "pride". There is nothing we can do but warn anyone coming over to leave him alone. There have been times we have locked him up when a repairman has come over. I can't tell you how to change her behavior. We have tried many things ourselves to change his behavior. We have decided that we are just going to have to accommodate his behavior. We warn people not to touch him.
With the behavior between your two I can help there. Get a product called Feliway. Spray it around the house. This acts as a kitty tranquilizer and should calm her down. Good luck.
