Question
I adopted a neighborhood expecting cat, she had 6 kittens. at 8 1/2wks I had as of 4 days ago given 2 away, then day later 1 away again 1 day later another with two left, for 2 days now she is meowing to the point of horsenes and sounding like a loud cry & looking in every room crying her meow. I am heart broken for I am assumming she is looking for her 4 kittens. This doesn't give up. crys for an hour off an hour and so on. Please help me, I don't know what to do and am now hesitant on giving her two up now. I have to as I now have 4 cats and can't afford two more.

Answer
Sharon,

The kittens should be weaned by now anyway.  Mama will get over it in a couple of weeks.  Personally, I feel that new kittens should not go to their new homes until they are about 12 weeks of age.

Cats are very practical animals and, even though she does not want to see the kittens gone, they will anyway and she will adopt to life without the kittens and, eventually, forget they were even there.  It is common to ascribe human emotions and motives to cats, but, the truth is, they do not think like we do!!!!!

So, in a couple of weeks, it will be OK to give the last two kittens away.

BTW, I am assuming you will be getting the mama spayed!

Best regards... Norm.
