3 week old kittens have fleas

Question
Our calico cat gave birth to 2 kittens on November 1st, 2007. I just noticed fleas on the kittens and the mother. I have two leftover viles of advantage multi 9 exp 10/2009 that I received from my local vet for our other two cats. I read on a post here that its safe to put two drops of advantage on the kittens.. can I do that? What about the mother? would it be OK to put a full dose of advantage multi 9 on the mother cat knowing the kittens are still nursing?  The Kittens look very healty at this time as well as the mother.

Answer
Kevin,

You need to consult your veterinarian as your kittens are too young for any product for flea control. I am not sure, but I think that if you treat mom the fleas will die on babies too, but as I said your vet will be able to steer you in the right direction. Your vet will also be able to counsel you as to when would be a good time to spay your cat as many mixed breed kittens are euthanized each year simply due to overpopulation.
