Question
I have two cats who are very old.  One is 16 and the other 14.  The elder cat is not eating, drinking lots of water, and is very skinny.  Once in a blue moon will he nibble on something new, but if I repeat it, he won't eat it.  Sometimes he vomits a small amount or has diarrhea.  He is also deaf but has sight.  My other cat is also not eating.  He appears to be losing a small amount of weight but he is still not skinny.  He recently had an illness, a cut ear, that required antibios, but is now feeling better.  But, since healing, he hasn't touched his food.  Other than age, he is in good shape.  Do you think both have one foot in the grave or is something else going on?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Diana,

I would have the vet check them out. It sounds like they are sick but not to death's door point. Have them checked. It could be something simple as arthritis. They need to be checked.
I am attaching a recipe for something called Kitty Glop. This stuff is fantastic for infirmed cats like you have. Feed them this stuff and see what a change for the better they will have. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen

KITTY GLOP

INGREDIENTS:
1 can evaporated milk (not sweetened condensed)
2 tbsp. plain yogurt (not low or non fat)
2 tbsp. mayonnaise (real not light or No-Fat)
1 tbs. Karo Syrup (light)
1 pkg. Knox gelatin
1 egg yolk (beaten, )
1 cup Pedialyte (unflavored)
1- 2 jars Stage One Baby food (chicken or turkey)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix milk, yogurt, mayonnaise, baby food, and syrup together well. Bring 1 cup pedialyte to boil and mix in Knox gelatin. Set aside. Mix egg yolk with small amount of milk mixture and beat well.

Add gelatin and pedialyte to milk mixture and beat well. Add in egg yolk mixture and beat well. Remember to not use egg substitute and keep egg white to a minimum.

Pour into bowl (with cover) and set in refrigerator. Glop will last for two weeks covered in refrigerator. Try freezing the mixture in ice cube trays and store the cubes in the freezer, thaw as many as needed.
Always warm glop to room temperature ,(milk form), or a little warmer, before feeding.
