Question
I have seen a picture of ragdoll breed was told those allergic to cats can have this breed and they donot shed, interested in info and breeders in the Vt area. Thank you  for any info you can provide.

Answer
It is a popular fallacy that some breeds are hypoallergenic but this is not true. People have different degrees of sensitivity to different breeds. I myself am allergic to Siamese and Tonkinese but am fine around all other breeds.

What is true is that Ragdolls are easy-care longhairs, and do not shed as much as, say, a Persian or a Maine Coon. That doesn't mean they don't shed. All cats shed. OK, Sphynx probably don't, at least not much.

AND, as easy-care longhairs, and really mellow kitties, you can bathe a Ragdoll fairly easily and regularly. This is really the best way to control cat allergies. It may also mean that you need not be restricted to any particular breed.

I suggest you try to get to a cat show and check out different breeds when they are all freshly bathed for the show. You might find you are not bothered at all. I only began to get serious about actually getting a cat once I started attending shows out of curiosity and realized that I hardly ever reacted inside the show hall.

You can also try to visit a Ragdoll breeder but it is unlikely that every cat in her house will be freshly bathed.

There is a show in Bedford, NH in July, that is probably the closest to Vermont. The only Vermont show is in January.

You can get names of Ragdoll breeders in New England by called the Cat Fanciers' Association Central Office at 732-528-9797 and asking for breeder referrals.

Good luck
