Question
Hi. My 4 year old indoor only cat escaped somehow about 5 days ago. I've done the flyers around the townhome community we live in, put em on doors, garages etc. I have spent the wee hours of the morning around the property looking in, under, on, over anything he could hide in. He is an orange tabby/siamese mix (he has the siamese face and personality). We are pretty confident someone doesn't have him as he's more of a I'm pretty just look at me and don't pick my up kinda guy. 3 days ago we started putting out sardines, his fave treat, at the back door where he escaped, and have had a myriad of kitties eating it but ours. I swore I heard his meow 2 days ago but when I peeked out the open door nothing was there I could see but I left the door open a few more hours with food. We tried a humane trap last night and trapped one that looked like him but our guy is neutered and this guy wasn't and his face wasn't long enough. We are moving in 4 days and he is missed terribly by myself and my children. I've called shelters, done the humane trap, the house trap, the food buffet, the water, left our door open from 11pm-5am while I lay on the sofa in wait.....What else can we do?? This is his first outdoor adventure.

Answer
Gina,

You have done all the right things.  However, cats usually stay pretty close to their home territory, BUT they are masters of hiding in plain sight.

You can still look during the day when you can actually see something.  Usually, during the day, most cats are asleep, so you can look around and call for him and look extremely carefully, as you could look right at him but not see him.

If you do move before you find him, leave a forwarding phone number with your neighbors so, if they do spot him, they can at least call you.  You say you have called the shelters, but have you called the veterinarians in your area?

I sure hope you find him!!!!!

Best regards... Norm.
