Feisty Kitten

Question
My kitten just bit me while I was holding, kissing and loving her right after she was playing with the other kitten. We have 2 kittens, the female approx. 14 weeks, male approx. 10 weeks old. I wanted to know why she would do that, what I should do to punish her (is that even right to do?), and where I should go from here...  Thank you so much!

Answer
Hi Jonathan.  If I'm interpreting the situation correctly, I think it's one of those gray areas.  I imagine she was probably still in battle mode from wrestling around with her buddy and probably hadn't fully transitioned into human interaction time.  In her playtime frame of mind, when you went for a little peck, it may have been as if  you were going for a chomp on the neck.  I would see if you can make more of a separation between playtime and cuddle time with a small meal.  A little bit of food in the belly will encourage her to settle down.

Of course, I wasn't there and couldn't see the intent of her actions the way you could, but that would be my take on it.  If she seemed malicious about the whole thing, then the best way to go about disciplining her would generally be to put her away from you in a bathroom or a crate for about 15 minutes or so.
