Question
Hi,   I have a mostly indoor cat - she is allowed out only on my small enclosed patio with me.  She started licking some volcanic ash rocks I had and because I was concerned that there might be some carcinogens in those rocks I removed them from her reach.  But she has since taken to licking cinder blocks.  I would like to know what she might be deficient in to cause this.  She is very healthy if a little overweight, she has also Never come into contact with other cats, and at my vets recommendation has not received a vaccination for feline leukemia as the vaccine can cause problems and I was assured she could not contract leukemia without coming into contact with another cat.  She shows no signs of any lethargy, illness or weight loss and has been trying to lick rocks for over 3 years.  I feed her Iams healthy naturals in chicken flavor and give her only dehydrated chicken, dehydrated chicken hearts and bonito flakes as treats.  I have tried to give her more expensive cat foods in the past, such as the Blue brand but they tend to make her stools quite loose.  She has also on 2-3 occasions been constipated, and she loves to eat grass, not kitty grasses (she won't touch those) but decorative grasses and crab grasses.  I have read of other people having cats that due this but they are said to do so from an illness in which they are also losing weight or showing other signs of illness, of which she shows no signs.  What could be the cause of her rock licking?  And is there some kitty supplement I could give her to help?

Thank you!

Hi Jeanie;  this product will help to calm your cat and take away some of the anxiety.  You can give this in the Pm, before bed:  Sounds like your cat has some OCD habits.
It may be just a habit and a Release for the anxiety.  It may also be related to a  Low or poor immune system ?
( hard to say for sure)
