My 1 Yr. Old Male Cat

Question
For the past week I have noticed that my cat has had leakage from his rectum.  It is almost as if he is urinating out his rear.  He has also lost a lot of weight.  I do not know what to do and I am scared that I may come home to a dead cat.  Can you please tell me what is going on with him.

Answer
Toshawa,

Unfortunately this is a medical issue, I'm not a veterinarian and I can't diagnose, recommend treatments or offer a prognosis. This kitty is obviously not doing well and I'd recommend that he sees a vet immediately in order to have the best possible chance at treating his condition. There is an Ask a Vet category on this website where you can ask licensed vets questions. I'd recommend asking Dr. Christine Chambreau, she's a holistic vet and I've always found her to be pretty good in terms of providing in depth answers. The other nice thing about Dr. Chambreau is that she offers phone and internet consultations throughout the US which means that you may be able to speak directly with her if you make the appropriate arrangements.

In today's world of economic uncertainty I understand that many folks are having financial difficulties as a result of losing their job or having their hours cut back substantially in an employer's bid to save money. I've always found that veterinary bills happen when I least expect them to. It's quite possible that your vet may be willing to work with you in terms of creating a payment plan, you may find that speaking to your vet and explaining your situation will allow you to get your kitty the medical help he needs to find out what's causing him to lose weight and have watery anal discharge. If finances are an issue I do keep an ever growing list of charities and other organizations that may be able to offer some degree of financial help with the vet bills. If you do need this kind of assistance I'd be more than happy to provide you with a list of organizations in your area. Since I have so many charities on this list all that I ask is for you to provide me with a general idea where you're writing from so that I don't have to waste your time by sending resources from all over North America and I'm also able to help more pet parents with their concerns because I can save time by only typing out the resources that you'll be able to use. I do apologize for not being able to help you out, I really wish that I could but this is truly outside of my expertise. If you have any further questions, concerns or you'd like me to clarify anything in this answer, please feel free to contact me again, I'd be happy to do whatever I can to help you.
