cant get cat in carrier

Question
I cannot cut my cat's nails because I can't pick her up or hold her down.  She will scratch (very long, very strong)with her nails.  I want to take her to the vet to do her nails but I can't get her (even with a towel).  She gets away from me.  Now she is hiding for probably the whole day.  I tried her favorite treats once and it worked but this time she would not go near them.  Is there any way to sedate this cat or do you have any other suggestions.

Hi Arlene,

I wanted to tell you how to grab her by the scruff of the neck. Basically you are going to take your hand to her back of her neck and grab the excess skin there. this will hold her immobile. Then you support her bottom with your other hand to take some of the pressure off her neck. Talk to her quietly because she will be a little scared. Good luck and if you need to know more write back. Don't be afraid of her. She is right now.
