12 year old dog urinating indoors

Question
A couple weeks ago we took Bailey, our 12 year old german shorthair pointer - springer spaniel mix to the vet for his routine check up. They did the full battery of tests & gave him a clean bill of health. The vet suggested glucosamine because his back legs are beginning to fail him. She said I could just get it at the grocery store, and give him an adult dose of it. I've been doing that for about a week. A few days ago, Bailey urinated in the apartment while we were playing with him. I thought he might be overstimulated, so we ended the play for the day. Today, he did it again. I cleaned it up, and then took him outside. He peed and pooped again.

Tonight, I think he urinated on the carpet not two hours later. I can't be sure, because we have another younger dog, but I'm pretty sure it was Baily. He is also drinking a lot of water, but it's very hot out and he only seems to do it when we come in from walking around the block.

I checked the label of the glucosamine, and it's made from shrimp, crab, and lobster. Is it possible that he has a shellfish allergy that is causing this? He also in the past few days has been shaking his head, licking his paws a lot, and gnawing on his tail.

Thank you for any advice you can give me.

Answer
Wow, sounds odd!  I bet he may be allergic to the fillers in the glucosamine tablet.  All pills have some kind of filler in it.  Stop this pill right away.
Now, think about if there have been any changes in your household?
What I mean is :  any new treats?  new foods?
New carpet?  New anything?????

If not, then it must be the pill of glucosamine.  As for allergy to shell fish question?  No, I would think he would swell up or get a bad rash.  The urination thing is odd.  He may have developed a Urinary Tract infection because of dehydration.  If it has been very hot then he could have the UTI.  I am just giving this a good guess!

You could try some NuVET Supplements / this is a skin and coat supplement/vitamin and Immune System Booster.  Excellet program that breeders, kennels and vets offer.  Buy here and save :  Give them order code 81098 - they don't sell to the public without a code.

NOT sold in any stores.

They guarantee the product or your money back.  They have ALL natural fillers, no junk.
You can get NuJoint Plus here too.... NuJoint is great for dogs with arthritis.

Wish that I had more ideas for you.  You can give him an Oatmeal bath, Oatmeal Doggie Shampoo is great stuff.  Also, tea tree oil hot spot spray will help the itching and biting.
NuVET sells shampoos, too

Thanks for your question!

Good Luck
