Dogs death

Question
We had our Rotweiller for only two years. Noticed she didn't act right on Saturday and vomited all her food on that day. On Sunday, she was not herself, just laying around, but still loving. On Monday morning she was dead. Now, prior to this she was hit by an automobile a month before and had a cast on her leg. My husband and I took off the cast after 5 weeks ourselves and she never fully utilized that leg. When I look back on it now, I now realize she never really ate all her food-like she use to. Thought she might have thrown a pulmonary embolism, but she didn't have any other signs except the vomiting. I don't know if it was heartworms or something else. Any Ideas???....

Answer
It's pretty hard to guess at the death of any dog online. I always suggest the pet be taken in to the vet's and a necropsy performed. That way the owners always have some sort of an answer.

I only have questions and suggestions.
If you are asking if it could be heartworms I can only guess that the dog wasn't on prevention. A two year old dog can certainly have accrued enough heartworms to cause a cardiac problem. Rotties are prone to these anyway,so having heartworms could have exacerbated an underlying heart issue already there.

She could have twisted her stomach although they are usually dead in an hour or less if that happens.

She might have had some other gastro-intestinal problem going on. Was she vaccinated for parvo etc?

Her cast was taken off too soon. She should have had it on for 6-8 weeks depending on the break. That is why she didn't use the leg, but its a stretch to think that had anything to do with her death.

Pulmonary embolism's in dogs are rare, and are usually caused by being hit by the car at the time. There is a large vessel in the chest some dogs rupture when hit but she wouldn't have lasted a day like that and you said this was a month ago.

Your best bet to find out is to have the vet look inside of her. I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope you do find an answer somehow.
My regards.
