Best food for Zoe

Question
Hi Marie-  In your opinion, what is the best food I can feed my one year old min-pin?  I've fed her Canadae dry food since she was a puppy and her coat is beautiful, she is healthy and very happy.  I know, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it", right?  One more question.  She has a cough which sounds as if she's got something caught in her throat.  She coughs only when she's running around, never when she's resting quietly.   Also it seems after she'd water very fast.  Any advice?  I appreciate it!!  Thank you, Kimberly and Zoe

Answer
Hi Kim and Zoe - I have a min pin running around me right now - her name is Katie and she visits my Doggie Hotel Very often... She is very very small only 3 pounds.

Anyway back to your Zoe- the food you are feeding is very good - I would keep her on the Canadae... You can add a teaspoon of wet food on top of the dry.  Canadae makes a good wet food, too.

As for the cough, this can be common to little dogs and her breed. As long as she doesn't cough at rest, don't worry about it.

I do recommend a supplement for her belly and her legs( joints).  Her breed is prone to joint and hip troubles.  Give her some NuVET Plus - Just 1 wafer treat per day if she is over 8 lbs...Under 8 lbs then give her just 1/2 per day - She should eat the wafer - you can break it up and hide it in some wet food.

Here is the link for NuVET Plus - Make sure you give my name and code # 81098 ( Marie) from Ask A VET - they can't sell to the public unless a vet or breeder has referred them.
