cat found dead

Question
Hi, I found my cat had died outside on my back lawn. I first thought he may have ate or drank something that killed him but I think different now. He is 6 1/2 years old and is fixed. He had a small wound, no blood though, at the bottom of his belly, halfway between his private parts and the middle of his underside. It looks like something may have biten him but I don't know what would have biten him there that could be lethal. Do you think a bite there could have killed him. I love and miss him so much and just wanted some closure. I am hoping there was no foul play involved, he does not spray since he is fixed, so I don't know what could have happened. Thank you for your help.

I am sorry that your beloved pet has passed away.  It is difficult to determine why he died without having history of his health or examining his body.  Is it possible that he could have been sick and you may not have noticed it?  Often with animals, especially with cats, signs of sickness often go unnoticed until it is far too late.  Did his appetite decrease?  Did you notice that his litterbox was untouched?  Did he begin to vocalize often?

Unfortunately,  outside cats do not live as long as inside cats do.  They often die mysterious deaths or are killed by predators. If you decide to get another cat, try one that has lived inside and watch it closely - with twice yearly veterinary visits.

If you prefer to let your pet cats outside, pay close attention to his habits - eating, urinary, ect. and continue with the twice yearly vet visits.
