Mustache parakeet Paralysis

Question
Hello Dr. Christina, I was given a baby Mustache parakeet to hand raise until it is old enough to feed on his own. Upon recieving this beautiful bird, he was not standing. He cannot keep his balance and his claws are closed most of the time. He feeds well and has a good apetite. This bird tries very hard to get up, but fails to achieve it. What do you think is wrong with him?  And is there anything I can do to help him recover?  The person I got him from said he was fine when he got him out of his cage to bring him to me, but during the car travel this is apparently how he ended up. Is that possible?  Your advice is very much appreciated.  Thank You.

Answer
I do not think it was caused by the car ride. I would put one drop of Rescue Remedy (from health food store) into a second water bowl for him while you connect with a wonderful acupucture or homeopathic veterinarian who specializes in birds to treat him.

Dr. Jennifer Rammelmeier does telephone consults and uses homeopathy.
