Cat eye problems

My precious 2 1/2 yo Sophia gets a thick black crust around the entire outer circumferance of both eyes--especially the inner corners. Sometimes it's runny and gooey in the corners, also. I've been through 2 rounds of expensive eye drops and Dovter visits that didn't make her any beter at all. Even though she tolerates me getting it out, I leave her eye rims looking raw, irritated, and pink, and she squints at me like it hurts. I got Sophia when she was 6-7 weeks old and had a little bit of this going on even then but seem to have progressively gotten heavier, thick with age. I remove it 1x/day but it builds up so fast that I could actually do it 2x/day. I love this silly cat more that life itself and desperately want to help her. Have you had your cat examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist?  He/she can check the conformation of the eye to determine if the way the eyelids are formed may be causing the discharge from her eyes.  

Seasonal or dustmite allergies can also cause discharge from the eyes.


A visit to a veterinary ophthalmologist may help you find a solution to your problem.
