Question
Hello. Thank you for your time. I bought a Welsh Terrier puppy in January. His name is Nord. Nord is now five months old. He appears healthy, is very active, and has a great appetite consisiting of hard Purina Puppy Chow and table foods like veal, chicken, lamb, rice, and various vegetables taht I mix for him on a daily basis. Nord has completed all of his vaccinations and is current on heartworm prevention. However, over the past two weeks or so his breath has smelled like jalepeno peppers. I brush his teeth daily with peanut butter pet toothpaste and have done so since January. He has all of his adult teeth. Do you think this warrants further investigation? Thank you, Victoria Maynard

Answer
Usually pups do not have all their adult teeth by 5 months? and often times while teeth are falling out they will have a bit of an odor to their breath.  You can try adding digestive enzymes to his food and consider switching to a more natural diet such as those made by Nutro Natural, Innova, California Natural, Flint River Ranch, Verus, Eagle Pack, Precise, etc.  If the odor continues, I would recommend a trip to the vet and a blood test to rule out underlying organ disease.
