year old pet manx cat biting skin and causing baldness/red spots

Question
my cat is starting to bite and obsessively clean one spot under her leg, and it has gotten bigger.  the skin was white, but now pink, and another spot is forming near his nipple.  I have put wound creme and bacitracin on it, but he keeps licking it off, and biting any wraps we put on it.  What can I do, other than getting a collar and muzzle on him?  He does not appear to have any fleas (indoor cat), worms, or ticks.  We feed him Nutro, and his fur is very shiny.  He is shedding somewhat, but he seems to be fine.  I do not believe that he has gotten into anything harmful like chemicals, and only drink water and eats cat food.

Answer
Hi Christina!  It sounds as though your cat may have an allergy to something in your home.  Have you changed laundry detergents, gotten something of a new fabric, or shampoed your carpets/carpet cleaning agents?
I would recommend a vet visit, as skin allergies are treated with steroids and prescribing him steroids should put a stop to this biting and licking/hairloss.  It is definately a good idea to keep the area unwrapped so the air can hit it...promoting healing.
I hope this is helpful!
