Boston Terrier Puppy Ear Infection?

Question
I got a new Boston terrier puppy about a month and a half ago! I took him to the vet 3 weeks ago Friday for his shots and such! What I thought was ear mites ( he was scratching alot and whining) ..turned out to be an ear infection! the vet prescribed him a wash that I was told to wash his ears out daily with for 3 to 5 days and then once a week and after a bath after that! he also had given me an ear ointment to use for 10 days. two drops in each ear every twelve hours! I did all of this and after cleaning his ears out tonight...I noticed that he is still screaming when I put the wash in; as well as not wanting them to be touched. I've also noticed a unfamiliar redness in his ears the past couple days. does this mean he still has this infection? or has it developed into something worse? he has an appointment in a week for his next shots but I don't know if I should wait that long? I have a two year old Boston and she's never had esr trouble so I am very unfamiliar with this! thank you in advance.

Answer
You did not indicate how old the puppy is. Nor did you indicate what type of infection is present (bacterial or yeast). There are some medication that can make the ear worse when they are used.  Notably an antibiotic called neomycin can do that.  Some of the acidic ear washes can also cause redness and pain.  In young puppies, there is a condition called puppy strangles that will cause the ear to get red even though you are treating the ear.  Can you feel under his neck to see if there are any lymph nodes that are swollen?  If it is an ear infection, then in young puppies, a food allergy is often the cause.
