Question
I have been a foster mom for squirrels for the wildlife sanctuary in my home town for 3 months now. I'm curious as to where the babies come out of mom. I see 2 openings, one for urine and the other for feces. If you could just send me a brief explanation or point me in the right direction to find out I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Answer
Baby squirrels are born the same way all mammals are born, via the vagina or birth canal. In female mammals, except for women, the path leading to the vagina is in an area called the vestibule, which is where the opening to the urethra is.

That is the tube that runs to the bladder. The vagina runs up into horns on most mammals that have litters or more than one young at a time. They are called uterine horns.

So basically up behind (inside) the opening for urine is where the vagina is and the uterine horns.
