bladder stone surgery

Question
I have a 10 pound toy poodle who is 13 years old.  He's extremely lively and in excellent condition.  He had surgery to remove a bladder stone on Tuesday, 5 days ago.  By Friday, 2 days ago, I felt the incision, etc. was not looking right and took him back to the vet.  They said that he had ruptured a couple internal stitches and he went back in for surgery to repair them that day (Friday - 2 days ago).  I don't believe it was the sutures on the bladder...it was the sutures on the muscular lining around the bladder.  Our concern, and it's been a ROUGH week, is the fact that he cannot hold his urine during the day.  He doesn't wet himself overnight but while awake during the day it becomes so urgent that it just comes out while he's walking around.  He seems to be mostly aware of it and will run to the door to go out.  Then, he will repeatedly want to go outside to urinate but then it's just dribbles and straining since the majority of it already came out in our house!  Is this normal?  How long is typical for him to not have bladder control?  Other than that issue he is drinking, eating, sleeping, having bowel movements and even wagging his tail.  He's seems pretty happy otherwise.  It's been an emotional rollercoaster this past week and I just want him to be O.K.  The incision looks very inflamed today....can you put ointment on it such as Neosporin or something similar?  Thank you.....I just need a little peace of mind.  By the way, he is taking Baytril 22.7, 1/2 pill 2X/day and Tremadol 50mg, 1/4 pill 2X/day.

Answer
Jenny,
It is not unusual at all for this to happen. He should regain control little by little in a week or so. The area is tender so he may have some pain when he tries to hold it so it leaks out. The fact that he isn't incontinent is good. That would be if he was leaking while sleeping.

He should be okay once his outer sutures are removed. If not ask your vet if there is something else you can do for him or give him.
Don't let him lick the incision either. That will make it very inflamed.
Get him an e-collar if he is licking.
