excessive drooling

Question
I noticed yesterday around noon that my 9 month old wheaten stared drooling lot.  It seems to be worse when he is sleeping.  He is otherwise acting normal.  He is eating and drinking.  He hasn't vomited or had any diarrhea.  There hasn't been any change except for the drooling.  I called the vet this morning but they weren't any help.  They told me they couldn't say anything until I brought him in.  Should I be worried?

Answer
Without looking up inside of his mouth it is pretty hard to tell what is going on. Most dogs don't drool suddenly unless there is something crammed into the gum somewhere in the mouth or the dog has eaten something that has caused this drooling. Some drugs/chemicals can cause this.

I would take him into the vet and have them do a thorough exam of his mouth to see if something is caught in his teeth. We see this now and then and it isn't always obvious when you look in there.
