change reef from 29 gallon to 75 gallon

Question
Hello,

I currently have a 29 gallon tank that has been running for a year and want to put everything I have into a new 75 gallon tank. My filter and protein skimmer are capable of a 75 gallon tank. I have purchased an additional 30 pounds of substrate, and will eventually purchase more fish and live rock. Can I just move everything I have into this tank including the water and add additional salt water, so it would be like a major water change, and lots of new substrate, or should I do it slowly, and start the conversion process like it is a new tank? I will need to purchase a new heater. My thought is to take some of the substrate from my old tank and mix it with all the new substrate and add thirty gallons of water to the tank, I have an air bubbler, so I would add that to the new tank and let it go for a week or so, then add everything I have in my current tank, including filter and protein skimmer. Is this a good plan?
I thank you in advance for helping me change into this larger tank.

Answer
Hello brad,

it is inevitable that folks go to larger tanks.. .its just a matter of time. hehehe

your plan to move things over a week sounds like a good plan.  If you can do that, i believe it should be no problem.

I would remind you that once you do move everything, to take it slow, and to not add things for a couple months, and make sure you have no problems and get used to the new routines.

Im not sure what filter you have, but I would look to get a sump and lose any cannister filter or hang on tank filter...

you can do that later on if you arent planning that now, or if you want ot do it all at once so as to not worry about it later on and or be worried about upsetting things by swtiching mid stream then do it now...

but eitehr way, it sounds like you have planned it out as well as can be.  now if you can only do it per plans.... :)
