Question
I have read several of your comments on "what and When" to feed,But how much?

Answer
Hi Betty,

Great Question.

Regarding how much to feed a Chocolate Chip Sea Star (Protoreaster nodosus):

In the aquarium, the diet of the Chocolate Chip Sea Star can consist of chopped clams, shrimp, squid, (other seafoods cut into morsels) and prepared foods like algae wafers.

Recommended feeding: once or twice a week. To help them out with eating, place the starfish on top of the morsels of food. If you choose not to place them on top of the morsels, make sure the food does not land or get blown under a rock or crevice, where the starfish will not be able to get it. Use caution when feeding them as to not over feed. Get to know your Chocolate Sea Stars by closely watching how much they will consume. Until you're familiar with how much they eat, make sure to take out any left over uneaten food items.

Lastly, I'd like to mention: Chocolate sea stars do best in systems with high water quality; under less than perfect conditions they quickly fall prey to heterotrophic bacterial infections that infect small scratches and other wounds.

Best Regards,
Dave
