Question
I recently purchased a BioCube and it was previously a Saltwater tank. My question is after cleaning and constant water changes the water still seems foggy. Is there any chemical I can use to get rid of the old Salt water build up. I cleaned it very thoroughly but if you know anything about Biocubes, you cant get to the very bottom of the built on filter. Thanks, I was told vinegar but I have the fish in the tank now. Any info or expert knowledge would help. Thanks Robb

Answer
Hi Robb,

Good question.

I do know plenty about BioCube Aquariums, as I've had many myself, and have sold many of them throughout the years.

With time, any haziness and/or fogginess of the water will clear up on its own accord.

Regarding any haziness and/or fogginess that appears on the aquarium filter walls, apparatus, or glass...  Since you already have fish in the aquarium, there's not really anything you can do to get these saltwater and/or calcium deposit stains removed, accept for trying to scrub them out/off.

Regarding re-soaking the aquarium, you would have to drain the aquarium and then start the soaking cleaning process over again, by letting the vinegar soak inside the bottom of the overflow filter area for at least a few days. You can also use pure baking soda combined with the vinegar for soaking. After it has soaked for a few days, use an elongated handled scrub brush to try and remove the stains or any deposits, followed by rinsing really well.

In conclusion, keep in mind that some of these saltwater stains/deposits may not ever fully come-off, because of the powerful erosion degradation process of salt. Even though it may not be cosmetically pleasing, these stains won't hurt your freshwater fish.

Regards,
Dave
