Question
QUESTION: i was looking in my parents fish tank that is salt water and i found a whole live rock that has pink worms in it.can those worms attach and kill the fish?

ANSWER: Hey Ryan,
Without a picture I cant be exact with an identification, but they are probably a type of bristleworm. Do they look to have hairs or legs? Similar to a centipede? I would do a Google image search on marine worms and bristleworms, I think you'll find the lil buggers.  Most of the aquatic worms you'll find in a marine system are beneficial. They are part of the janitorial crew, feeding on detritus and waste, stirring the substrate, etc. I wouldnt worry. It is EXTREMELY rare that you find one large enough to attack one of the fish. Now bristleworms have been known to eat polyps and other soft corals, so watch them. Let me know if you have any other questions.

QUESTION: i know they are bristleworms and there are 30 of them.each one is at least 1 inch long

Answer
Hey Ryan,
You can trap them and remove them if you'd like. It might take several days to get them all. I've done this in the past to reduce populations. You can place a piece of shrimp, krill, fish, etc, in a nylon stocking and submerge it in the tank over night, the bristleworms can get in but get stuck and cannot get back out. In the morning remove the stocking, pitch the bristleworms and repeat the procedure each night until you've removed enough of the population. As I said it may take several nights. If you know of 30 of them there are more. If you dont have soft corals, mushrooms or polyps, then there really is nothing to worry about. They are extremely good at cleaning and stirring the substrate.
