Hi John,

Making the switch from traditional aquarium lighting to LED aquarium lighting is a smart move...

There are many good quality LED aquarium lights on the market, to choose from.

The main requirements you want to look for, in a good LED aquarium light fixture, would include the following:

-- The fixture should include a good brand of LED, for example: BridgeLux, CREE, Luxeon Rebel, etc...

-- The LEDs should be a minimum of 3 watts each. There are fixtures available with 5 watt, 6 watt, and even 10 watt LEDs. However a fixture having at least LEDs of 3 watts each, will allow you to keep most corals. See the following link below, from one of my favorite online aquarium stores; it shows a LED aquarium light fixture that incorporates both 3 watt and 10 watt LEDs.

-- PAR ratings in the 200's at minimum

-- Make sure it incorporates a heat-sink for cooling

-- Make sure it incorporates optic lens, for focusing the light, for a wider spread

Regarding the Maxspect Razor, this LED aquarium light fixture is a good brand fixture; however this particular model light (as of this writing), hasn't been out on the market very long. Therefore there's not an abundant amount of real data or significant feedback from users of this light... it's really to new to determine if hobbyists will love it, like it, or not... however I'd imagine that it will do very well.

History of Maxspect: Chinese company that became popular in the U.S. in 2009, with their LED-G1-180-60. They've come along way since, with their now featured Razor led aquarium light. See the following link below from Reef Builders:

I know OCReef.com of Orange County California, has also designed a compact, slim, LED aquarium light; however I don't think theirs is out on the market just yet... See the attached image of their magazine advertisement, found in the Reef Hobbyist magazine.

I wish you luck with all your future saltwater aquarium endeavors.

Sincerely,
