Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have a 14 gallon tank with yellowtail damsel, firefish, pajama cardinalfish, peppermint shrimp and chocolate chip sea star. I would want to get another fish. I like damsels but I'm not sure which one are there any damsels that are as peaceful as yellowtail damemsels. thanks

PS:I also like cinnamon clowns and clarkii clowns

ANSWER: Hi Ben,

Good question.

From my years of experience, the only other damsel fish species that I could recommend as being peaceful, would be the Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis) However an aquarium of 30 gallons or more is better suited for this fish.

If you are absolutely set on getting another fish in your 14 gallon, perhaps a small species of Cinnamon Clownfish would be a better fit for you. These fish are being Aqua-Cultured, therefore I recommend to find a retailer that is offering tank bred specimens. Tank bred specimens are generally healthier, and are already accustomed to life in captivity, and are already accustomed to eating prepared foods, versus a wild caught Cinnamon Clownfish.

Keep in mind that a small species will eventually out-grow your 14 gallon aquarium, and within a year will need to be moved to a larger aquarium.

Regards,
Dave

Egg Crate Used For Partitioning In Aquariums

Partition off the aggressor. This can be accomplished by using a piece of ceiling egg crate, you can easily cut it down to size, to fit your aquarium. Make sure the Yellow Tail Damsel is on one side, and make sure the Six Line Wrasse is on the other side. Leave the partition in your aquarium for at least a couple of weeks; this will give your Yellow Tail Damsel plenty of time to get use to seeing the Six Line Wrasse. After the two week period remove the partition, and then see how they are getting along. If the partitioning of the fish hasn't helped, you may have to get another aquarium to accommodate the damsel and/or find another home for it.
