salt for salt water aquarium

When you set up a salt water aquarium, can you use plain table salt that does not have iodine?  Thank you.

Hi Beverly. No. Use only the salt that is made for mixing with your water to make up saltwater for your fish. There is a lot of other trace minerals contained in seawater that makes up these synthetic seasalt mixes that your tank would be lacking if you use plain old table salt.
