Question
Just bought him yesterday and have a 35 gallon reef tank. At this point he has no desire to eat. Giving him frozen brine shrimp..  He is out roaming the tank. Should I be concerned? Also bought a Skunk Clown and he is extremely hyper going from one end of the tank to the other non-stop and slept at the top of the tank during the first night. He did eat today...

Answer
Hi Michael. Try offering the blenny a variety of foods until you find the one he prefers. Brine shrimp has very little nutritional value anyway. Try mysis or chopped clam or squid. If all else fails you may have to try to get him to eat live brine shrimp in the beginning. I don't recommend brine shrimp ever unless you have a very picky eater and then you should use live to entice him. Once you get him to eat that switch to frozen brine for a week and then on to other foods. Sometimes a newly acquired fish won't eat for the first few days that you have him so give him another day or two before you get too worried. These fish are used to pecking at the microfauna that exists in the ocean. Getting him to feed in your tank can be a little tricky and providing that your reef tank has some of his natural food source in it he may be picking from that at first. Eventually though this food source will run low so getting him to eat whatever you can is best. Your skunk clown is acting normal for a newly acclimated fish. Remember these fish are taken from the ocean, starved, shipped, and acclimated a few times before it goes to your home. Give it some time to calm down and find a good spot in your tank to call its own territory. Right now he is very stressed out and needs to be kept as calm as possible. If your tank is in a very active room this may add to his stress. Try to keep it calm around him until he settles in. It should only take a few days to a week and his personality will completely change.
